Walking through Hoi An at night, you notice things you’d miss in the daylight — the hiss of grills heating, the clatter of bowls behind a low-lit stall, the smell of fish sauce, herbs, something sweet frying in a pan. That’s where this tour takes you. No tourist traps. Just real food, the way locals eat it.
This isn’t a buffet or a fixed menu. It’s more like a night out with a local friend who knows exactly where to go. You’ll eat with your hands, sit on low stools, walk through backstreets, and probably laugh more than you expected. Somewhere between the second snack and the last cup of egg coffee, you realize — this is what you came to Vietnam for.
What You’ll Eat
It’s not a gimmick. We take food seriously here. You’ll try 8 to 10 different dishes, depending on the day and what’s fresh.
- Cao Lau – You won’t find this noodle dish outside of Hoi An. The chewy noodles are made with water from an ancient well, served with pork, herbs, and crispy cracklings; no two vendors make it the same way.
- Bánh Mì – We’ll take you to the banh mi shop that locals swear by. Crusty bread, pâté, BBQ pork, pickled veggies, chili, coriander. Not all banh mi is equal.
- White Rose Dumplings – Handmade daily by one family in Hoi An. Shrimp or pork filling in a delicate rice wrapper. They look fancy, but it’s street food at heart.
- Bánh Xèo – Crispy pancakes stuffed with pork, shrimp, and bean sprouts, eaten with hands and herbs, rolled in rice paper, dipped in sauce. You might get messy. Worth it.
- Mì Quảng – Turmeric noodles in a rich broth with pork, shrimp, peanuts, and fresh greens. A Quảng Nam staple.
- Nem Lụi – Grilled pork skewers you wrap in rice paper with herbs, cucumber, and dunk in peanut sauce. Best eaten standing next to the fire that cooked them.
- Bánh Khọt – Mini coconut pancakes. Savory, with a hint of sweetness, and crispy on the edges. Great with fish sauce.
- Balut (optional) – Fertilized duck egg. You don’t have to eat it. But if you’re curious, we’re here to guide you through.
- Chè or Tào Phớ – Sweet Vietnamese desserts. Jelly, beans, tofu pudding, and coconut milk. You’ll end on a light note.
- Vietnamese Egg Coffee – Rich, thick, foamy. Like tiramisu in a cup.
This isn’t just snacking. You will leave full.
More Than Just Eating
This isn’t just a food crawl. You’ll walk through hidden alleys, stop by the river, and visit a local house where you’ll eat at the family’s table. Our guides — all young, born-and-raised in Hoi An — aren’t reciting facts. They’ll tell you about growing up here, how their grandma makes cao lầu at home, or where they go out after work. You might end up making friends.
And the timing works whether you want to eat your way through lunch or soak up the night-time buzz. Either slot runs about three hours, and you’ll explore spots most tourists don’t find on their own.

A Few Reviews From Travelers
- “Nguyen was our guide, and he felt more like a friend than a tour leader. We tried at least 9 dishes in 3 hours, including a local house dinner. The pork skewers were out of this world. We ended up skipping dinner the next day because we were still full.” — Emily, Canada
- “I booked it at the last minute, didn’t expect much, but it turned out to be my favorite thing in Hoi An. Best banh mi I’ve had. Loved that we didn’t just hit the touristy places. Egg coffee at the end was a surprise bonus.” — Liam, UK
- “Went solo and ended up having dinner with strangers who became friends. We kept hanging out after the tour and even met up the next day to do a cooking class together.” — Rita, Germany
