Do Hoi An cooking classes offer hotel pickup/drop-off?
I stayed in Cam Chau, Hoi An. A homestay called Hoi An Eco Lodge. Not fancy or anything, just 500,000 VND per night with breakfast. I booked a cooking class via Airbnb Experience, called “Mr.Smith cooking class: From Market to Meal.” It clearly said “free hotel pickup within Hoi An.” I messaged right away. Mr.Smith (the host) replied in simple English, saying someone would pick me up at 8:10 AM, either by scooter or car, depending on the location.

And sure enough, at 8:07, a guy named Thành called, “Hello Ms. Anna, I am waiting at the hotel” (“I’m in front of your gate”). No need to scramble around the narrow streets of the old town, especially since the May weather was hot and humid. The sun in Hoi An at that time of year isn’t gentle. Being picked up saved me a lot of sweat, and I even had time to grab a quick fried banana that the homestay owner offered.
On the way to the local market, I chatted with a Canadian couple who were also picked up from their hotel near An Bang. They said the guide even called them 15 minutes before to confirm. They didn’t know the area and appreciated the pickup less stress, less chance of being late. So even though the class wasn’t “high-end,” this kind of service made it feel… decent. Unlike some classes I’ve tried in Chiang Mai or Luang Prabang, where you just show up on your own.
Of course, not every cooking class in Hoi An offers pickup. I once asked about a class in Tra Que village, and they said “self-arranged, no transport support.” Their group was small and didn’t have a vehicle ready. Sometimes the location is just too close. So, if you’re staying in the Old Town or areas like An Hoi or Cam Nam, chances are good you’ll get a pickup.
Pickup is usually included in the price. My class was 750,000 VND per person (includes market tour, basket boat, cooking 4 dishes, lunch, and pickup/drop-off). Another one I found on Klook cost around 650,000, also with pickup, but you had to book at least 24 hours ahead. One thing to note: classes that include pickup often have more flexible scheduling. You might even ask to switch from morning to afternoon if it rains.
If you’re not in a hotel, maybe in a hostel, dorm, or Airbnb, that’s fine too. Just send them a clear address photo, via Zalo, WhatsApp, or email. I stayed in a small homestay and still got picked up. As long as there’s space for a vehicle to stop, you’re good. Just ask. Ask clearly from the start.
Most decent cooking classes in Hoi An nowadays do offer pickup and drop-off, as long as you’re within a reasonable radius. Don’t rely 100% on the short web descriptions. Message them. Ask directly. They reply quickly. Once confirmed, you can relax and enjoy the cooking journey instead of worrying about navigation, grabbing rides, or getting scorched. I’ve been through it. And that one small detail made the whole experience a lot smoother.
