How long does the Hue dinner cruise on the Huong River last?

The dinner cruise on the Hương River in Huếusually lasts about 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on which one you book. Most of the boats start boarding around 6:00 to 6:30 PM, and they’re back by 8:00 PM at the latest.

Back in April 2024, I joined one of those traditional dragon boats for a dinner cruise — it was just over 90 minutes from start to finish. We left from Toa Kham Wharf right as the sky started to shift that deep golden color over the river. The boat didn’t rush. It drifted slowly past Trường Tiền Bridge, the old citadel glowing softly in the distance, and a few other spots lit just enough to keep the mood dreamy.

The live ca Huế music performance usually kicks in after dinner is served — somewhere around 30 minutes into the ride. If you’re wondering whether you’ll feel rushed, not really. There’s enough time to eat, sip a beer or two, listen to the music, and just sort of let your mind wander with the water. No one’s barking orders. It’s not one of those tight-schedule touristy things.

If you go with a private boat or one of the more upscale options (some even serve a set menu with proper table setups), the cruise can stretch closer to 2 hours, especially if there’s a longer performance or a custom route involved. But the standard group boats — the ones around 150,000 to 300,000 VND per person — tend to keep it under two hours, just enough for a short, calm evening without dragging on.

So yeah, plan for an hour and a half minimum, maybe a bit more if the river’s quiet and the captain’s in no hurry.
